"THREE YEARS OF GREAT ART" REVIEW

BY LAUREN WHEELER, NOVEMBER 2007
Overdue Recognition Art Gallery celebrated their
Third Anniversary with artist John Holyfield!
Overdue Recognition Art Gallery first opened their doors in the Fall of 2004. Since then, owners Derrick and Jackie Thompson have brought the talents and gifts of African American artists to the forefront, catapulting many new artists careers while still maintaining to recognize and pay homage to artists of the past. On the weekend of November 2nd, 3rd and 4th, families flocked to Overdue Recognition Art Gallery to join in the celebration of their third year of African American Art in the community. The event was a roaring success, with great music, fantastic food, and lively company!
To kick off the celebration Overdue Recogntion showcased the works and talents of John Holyfield. Holyfield , a native of Clarksburg, West Virginia, is best-known for his detailed images with themes of family, religion, and everyday rural life. It was truly a great opportunity for collectors to share and experience Holyfield's work first-handedly since he already has a wide and established client base in the D.C. Metropolitan area. At the show, Holyfield unveiled his newest release entitled "Romantic Rendezvous". This piece, which will be made into both a limited edition giclee and a limited edition lithograph, is part of Holyfield's Romantic Series of work. Other works that were at the show include the very rare, sold-out "Blessing I" and "Blessing II", originals from the Stages of Love series, handpulled serigraph "Bahiya", and " the Entertainers" and "The Entertainer's Mystique", both from the Entertainers Series.
About 200 families stopped by the gallery to experience the talents of John Holyfield, including former Mayorial candidate Michael Lyles and artist Larry "Poncho" Brown. As a special touch, Holyfield dedicated many of his works to his aprreciative fans by autographing the glass with his personalized message.
In the near future, Overdue Recognition is excited to welcome the Negro League of baseball to the gallery on November 17, 2007. This is a family event, and we hope that all can make it!
A special thanks to Todds Catering, Our Sponsor Ameriprise, and Family Tree Productions for helping us put together another successful show!~
